Using Tags to Organize Pages and Events in Alosant

Learn how to use tags and Smart Buttons in Alosant to group, organize, and surface related pages and events for users in the app.

Summary

Tags help organize and surface pages and events in the app. By assigning tags to content and pairing them with specific Smart Buttons, admins can group related pages or events and make them easier for users to discover.

Who this is for

  • Community managers and administrators organizing app content

  • Teams responsible for structuring pages, events, and navigation

  • Admins using Smart Buttons to surface grouped content

Prerequisites

  • You have access to the Alosant Admin portal

  • You have permission to manage Pages, Events, Tags, and Smart Buttons

  • Pages and/or events already exist in the system

  • Enter the User-Visible Text.

  • Copy the same text into the Reference Name.

  • Select the appropriate Triggers.

  • Select one or more Tags.

  • Choose a Scope for where the button appears.

  • Set the Priority if multiple buttons share the same scope.

  • Click Save.

Expected result

  • Pages and events are grouped using tags.

  • Smart Buttons display dynamic lists of tagged content.

  • Users can easily discover related pages or events in the app.

Troubleshooting

  • Tag does not appear in the dropdown: Confirm the tag type matches the content type (Event vs Page).

  • No content appears when tapping a Smart Button: Verify content is tagged correctly and triggers have run.

  • Order of pages seems incorrect: Pages are displayed in order of creation, oldest first.

  • Users cannot see the button: Confirm the correct triggers and scope are selected.

FAQ

Can a page or event have more than one tag?
Yes. Pages and events can be assigned multiple tags.

Can the same tag be used for both pages and events?
No. Tags are either Event tags or Page (Place) tags.

How are tagged pages ordered in the app?
Pages are shown in the order they were created, with the oldest first.

Do tags automatically show content in the app?
No. Tags must be paired with a Smart Button to display grouped content.

Notes / Escalation

  • Important: Tags alone do not display content; Smart Buttons are required.

  • Important: Tag types strictly control where tags can be used.
  • Internal-only note: Overusing tags to duplicate existing navigation (such as full calendars) is not recommended.

  • Escalate to the Alosant internal teams if tags do not apply correctly or Smart Buttons fail to display tagged content.
